New Zealand Zoo and Safari Park

If you’re planning a visit to Queenstown on the South Island for your New Zealand Holidays, you won’t want to miss Deer Park. This 800-hectacre park is home to a variety of animals, including bison, goats, highland cattle, Himalayan thar, llamas, sheep and — of course — deer. The wildlife roam freely throughout the park and several species can be hand-fed. Visitors can purchase tins of nuts at nut dispensers throughout the park. Several sites within Deer Park were used in the filming of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Deer Park costs AUS $15 per car.

Visitors to the North Island can spend the day exploring the Auckland Zoo. The largest zoo in the country, the Auckland Zoo has more than 750 animals, representing 120 species from New Zealand, Oceania and the world. Learn about aquatic species such as sea lions and cave seals in the Sea Lion and Penguin Shores exhibit, or meet the monkeys and birds that populate the steamy South American rain forests. From Asian elephants to Sumatran tigers, kangaroos to hippos, the Auckland Zoo is home to a variety of wildlife, including the world’s only noctural viewing house that contains the kiwi, New Zealand’s national bird. The Auckland Zoo costs AUS $16.72 for adults over 15 years and AUS $8.36 for children ages four to 14. Seniors and student admission costs AUS $13.68 with identification and children under four get in free.
