New Zealand’s capital city is Wellington, and this city is situated on the south-western edge of North Island. The metropolis sits on the western shores of Wellington Harbour, and the prominent Rimutaka Mountains reach down past the harbour on the north-eastern side. Wellington is on a peninsula between the Wellington Harbour and Cook Strait.

Barrett Reef – At the western end of the Wellington Harbour’s mouth, Barrett Reef is a rocky reef that makes the waters extremely treacherous for boats.

Cook Strait – The straight is the body of water flowing between North and South Islands of New Zealand. This waterway joins the South Pacific Ocean with the Tasman Sea.

Rimutaka Range – Spreading out for 55 kilometres, the mountain range spreads Palliser Bay in the north-east to the Turakirae Head in the south-west.

Turakirae Head – On the north-west of Palliser Bay, Turakirae Head is a picturesque and prominent point of land jutting into the ocean. The point is the ending to the Rimutaka Mountains.

Wellington Harbour – Wellington is the capital city of the country, and this capital is located on the western side of Wellington Harbour.
